These are a small selection of what HTML elements there are, they are the skeleton of a webpage, they must be used before inserting content or other tags. HTML doctype Element At the beginning of an HTML document, we usually start with a declaration, that declaration is <!DOCTYPE>. This declares to the software (browser etc.) exactly what type of document it is, in this case HTML, so we write this as: <!DOCTYPE html> If this isn't written in your document, the software will act in ways you don't want it to. HTML documents are separated into three main technical components, these are Tags, Attributes, and Elements, without these, webpages would not function the way we know and would simply be plain text. TagsTags are part of the basic structure of an HTML document, this surrounds the content and tells the software what it is (applies meaning to it). <!DOCTYPE html> Tags are surrounded by greater than and smaller than signs, starting with < and ending with >. Many tags have an opening tag and closing tag (a beginning, and an end). |
